HENDRICKS COUNTY, Ind. (July 30, 2015)– Indiana State Police (ISP) say a two-car accident on I-74 near the Brownsburg exit and Ronald Reagan Parkway shut down the eastbound lanes Thursday night around 6 p.m.
Police say their preliminary investigation indicates the driver of a 2004 Jeep who was killed lost control as the lanes were reduced from two to one prior to entering the construction zone at I-74 eastbound, just east of State Road 267. After loss of control, the jeep rolled over and then struck the rear of a second vehicle, a 2013 Kia Optima.
The driver of the jeep, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. There were no passengers. Police identified the deceased as Scott Bennett, 55, of Brownsburg.
The driver and three passengers of the Kia were using seat belts and were not injured.
