DESERT CENTER, Calif. (July 20, 2015) – A bridge collapsed after heavy rains in California over the weekend.
Rain washed away the bridge Sunday afternoon, according to KTLA. A pickup truck went over the edge after it happened, trapping the driver inside. Other drivers used tow straps to secure the vehicle, preventing it from being swept away. Firefighters rescued the driver despite rapidly rising waters and falling asphalt and debris.
The driver was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
The 10 Freeway was closed in both directions as a result of the collapse. It will remain closed for an extended period of time, officials said.
