BROWN COUNTY, Ind. (July 14, 2015) – Conservation officers found the body of a Brown County man who was swept away in floodwaters.

Around midnight, authorities were alerted that Travis Watkins, 37, had been carried away in a flooded creek behind his home at Hoover Road and State Road 46 in Brown County. He’d tried to get across the creek to check on his grandmother, who lives on the other side.

Conservation officers and fire department crews searched for Watkins but called off the search when another round of severe weather swept through the area.

The search for Watkins resumed Tuesday morning, and Angela Goldman from the Indiana Department of Natural Resource says crews found Watkins’ body Tuesday afternoon.

According to witnesses, Watkins was calling for help and clinging to branches before he was swept away.

Emergency personnel in Brown and neighboring Bartholomew counties were busy throughout the night rescuing people from homes and stranded vehicles.
