INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (July 7, 2015) - A school that serves many low income-families is expanding in order to meet high demand. The Oaks Academy is moving its middle school from the Fall Creek campus to a new facility on East 16th Street.

Volunteers arrived at the Fall Creek campus shortly after 5 a.m. Tuesday to help pack up furniture and supplies. Participants included former students, parents and even grandparents.

The Oaks Academy began in 1998 in the 2300 block of North Park Avenue. Head of School Andrew Hart said there's been a lot of improvement in the neighborhood thanks to access to better education.

While the Oaks Academy is a private school, half of the students come from low income families. The school had its largest waiting list in 2012 and administrators decided to take action by expanding.

The new Oaks Academy Middle School will open in August of 2016 at 16th Street and Andrew J. Brown Avenue.

Volunteers spent much of the morning loading up the school materials into three tractor trailers. Their goal is to finish the move by 3 p.m.
