INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (July 5, 2015) -- The family of fallen Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) Officer Perry Renn is remembering his bravery and sacrifice. One year has passed since Officer Renn was shot after responding to a call. Officer Renn's father, David, spent the day with his daughter, looking back at Perry's life.

"This past year has been difficult for all of us, you know? Losing a loved one is just never easy, but losing a child, it really hurts," Renn said.

Officer Perry Renn was gunned down after responding to a call near 34th Street and Forest Manor Avenue. Police say he was shot by Major Davis II, who was holding an AK-47. Major Davis is in a state prison awaiting trial, and if he's convicted, he could get the death penalty. The night the shooting happened, David Renn says the regular time that family members were spending together was interrupted by the call he never expected to receive.

"Normally on Saturday night we like to play cards, a year ago that's what we were doing. We couldn't play cards last night, my daughter just, it was too much for her, ya know? Thinking about it. So, it's been a slow process, but we're doing better," Renn said.

Mr. Renn says the family is doing better partly because of all of the thoughts and prayers that have come from you. He wants you to know that you have helped him and his family cope. Renn's family is expected to attend a city-wide IMPD roll call Tuesday. The entire department will honor Perry Renn at that time.
