Water rescue leads to Greenwood man’s arrest on drug charges

MORRISTOWN, Ind. (June 29, 2015) – Indiana conservation officers arrested a Greenwood man on drug charges following his rescue from the Big Blue River in Shelby County.

Just before 5 p.m. Sunday, first responders were dispatched to the area of 3821 N. Morristown Rd. after hearing four people had capsized in a kayak and were swept down river. They reached a nearby island but were surrounded by swift waters.

The Shelby County Swift Water Rescue Team reached the kayakers and rescued them. One of the men smelled of marijuana; a search turned up pot and drug paraphernalia.

Conservation officers arrested Lou K. Costa from Greenwood on charges of possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia.
