INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (June 23, 2015) -- Detectives are trying to figure out what happened before a young man was shot and killed on the northeast side this morning.  The Marion County Coroner’s Office says Ewart Lollis, 20, died from a gunshot wound.

Police say they were called to the 5200 block of Marrison Place shortly after 1 a.m. Officers say the person who first called 9-1-1 said Lollis shot himself in the head, however, detectives were given inconsistent statements on scene, leading to more investigation.

The victim’s sister told CBS4 News that several family members were inside the home when the shooting happened, including the victim’s mom and grandma.  Another woman, who says she was the victim’s girlfriend, said she and other friends believe someone shot Lollis after forcing their way through a door to the home.

"It was kicked in," Nijah Phillips said.

"He was a good dude. He didn’t do nothing but go to work, come home, and this is what happened... invaded his house, his privacy... he didn’t deserve it, not at all, " Phillips said.

Police say anyone with more information should call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS.
