HAZMAT crews on scene of an ammonia spill at Speedway Coca-Cola plant

SPEEDWAY, Ind. (June 15, 2015) – Fire and HAZMAT crews are on the scene of an ammonia leak at the Coca-Cola Bottling Plant in Speedway.

Dispatchers received a call about a chemical spill from the plant in the 5000 block of West 25th Street near the Indianapolis Motor Speedway just before 2 a.m. Monday.

Officers say employees in the plant were transferring liquid ammonia when it spilled or leaked from its container.

Crews have assessed the plant and have found no active leak. They are currently inside the building taking air samples to make sure the air is safe to breathe.

At this time, it is unknown if any employees sustained injuries as a result of the spill.
