Former Bedford teacher found not guilty of battery in case involving student
Update: A jury found Orland McConnell not guilty of battery on a person less than 14 years old.
BEDFORD, Ind. (June 15, 2015)– A former Bedford teacher faces a battery charge after being accused of violence against a student.
Police say Orland McConnell, a teacher at Stalker Elementary in Bedford, was arrested after allegedly slamming a 9-year-old student’s head into a desk several times in February.
The victim and the teacher’s assistant told police McConnell became angry after after the student hit him with a Lego. McConnell “forcibly” made the student sit down and then hit the child’s head against the desk at least three times, court documents show.
McConnell, 61, was placed on administrative leave after the incident and later resigned from the school.
