INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (June 8th, 2015) — The second phase of construction on Allisonville Road between 86th and 96th street was scheduled to start Monday morning, but The Department of Public Works says rain delayed the project. Crews will be able to start when the pavement is dry.

For drivers, it’s not what they want to hear after many complained about the amount of time the project has taken already on the busy road. Some of those drivers contacted CBS4 news, wanting to know when they’d see relief or wondering why they don’t typically see a lot of construction workers in the area.

DPW representative Jennifer Hashem says the project contractor is on schedule and crews have already finished curb replacements an the $1.8 million dollar project.

“There are several portions to every construction project that we do and it’s important that our residents understand that,” Hashem said.

“Each of these projects vary in time and length — this specific project involves curb replacement, multiple traffic lanes, stripping and even once those portions are completed, we still need to conduct an inspection,” she said.

The project contractor has until October 1st of this year to complete the construction, but Hashem says the city’s goal is to have it done by the beginning of September.

“We’re working as quickly and effectively as possible to ensure it gets done,” she said.
