BOONE COUNTY, Ind. (May 29, 2015) -- Now that summer vacation is here, Hoosier children will be hitting the playgrounds to get rid of the stresses of school. Law enforcement is reminding parents about how to track registered sex offenders.

You can do so just by typing in your address in a search field which will bring up a map so you can see where registered sex offenders are compared to where you are. The map shows the offenders with in a two mile radius, as well as their name, address and photo. The Boone County Sheriff's Department is hoping more parents will utilize it.

"We want them to be aware and alert about what's around them and what's going on," said Captain Mike Beard with the Boone County Sheriff's Department.

Captain Beard says quarterly checks are done to ensure the offender's information is up to date.

"We go out and verify that address, if there's a picture taken and they need to change their address they have to come in and keep their ID up to date," Capt. Beard added.

Chris Dennis, a father of two, knows the value of stranger danger safety and is all about protecting his children.

"That's part of your responsibility as a parent, and I definitely will do whatever I feel necessary to as far as watching out and taking care of my kids," Dennis said.
