Five people hurt in multi-vehicle crash that closed I-65
COLUMBUS (May 29, 2015) – Five people were hurt in a crash involving five vehicles Thursday night in Bartholomew County.
The crash closed southbound I-65 south of Columbus for almost three hours.
Indiana State Police say a maroon semi rear-ended a green Chevy, which was pushed forward into the back of a gray Honda Civic. The Honda then hit the rear of a second semi and became lodged under its trailer. The first semi continued on I-65 until it struck a third semi.
The driver of the first semi was trapped inside and had to be rescued by emergency crews. He was flown to IU Health Methodist Hospital and is being treated for serious injuries.
The Honda’s driver was taken to a medical center in Seymour with cuts to the face. Two people in the Chevy and the driver of the second semi were transported to Columbus Regional Hospital with head injuries. The driver of the third semi refused treatment.
I-65 was closed for almost three hours, and all lanes reopened just after midnight Friday morning.
