INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (May 25, 2015)—A 3-year-old child was transported to a hospital in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle near the children’s museum on the near north side of Indianapolis Monday.
The accident occurred near 30th and Illinois streets just before 4 p.m. Emergency officials confirm the child was taken to Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health with critical injuries.
Police at the scene said the 3-year-old child was walking down 30th Street with their father, when the child let go of his father’s hand and went into the street. The driver of the vehicle swerved to avoid hitting the child and crashed into a tree.
Authorities said the child was unconscious when police arrived to the scene but regained consciousness on the way to the hospital.
Police do not believe the driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs. They said the driver is cooperating with the investigation.
