INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (May 18, 2015) — A woman was critically injured in a boating accident on the southern end of Geist Reservoir Sunday evening.

The accident happened just before 5:15 p.m. in Geist, just east of East 86th Street and Fall Creek Road.

According to an Indiana Conservation Officer, the initial investigation revealed a runabout boat and a pontoon boat collided. The operator of the pontoon boat was taken to St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis in critical condition. She was later identified as Rebecca Harris, 52, of Indianapolis. She is currently listed in critical condition, but she is showing signs of improvement.

The passenger on the pontoon was also thrown from the boat, but was unhurt.

The operator and occupants of the runabout boat were not injured.

According to DNR law enforcement officer Jet Quillen, the operator of the runabout boat that struck the pontoon boat had consumed alcohol but was not over the legal limit.

Both of the boats have been impounded and the DNR is reconstructing the accident.
