DANVILLE, Ind. (May 3, 2015) —  Hendricks County sheriff’s deputies say a Danville woman told them she could not find her 2-year-old daughter or her car early Sunday.

The child was found safe inside the vehicle, which was parked along a Hendricks County Road. The mother now faces charges of neglect.

Initial reports on the missing toddler came from the child’s mother, Logan Wardle, 27, Danville, who reportedly woke up at home and said she couldn’t locate the child or her vehicle at her residence.

In a police report, Wardle recalled being at her family’s Clay County cabin earlier in the evening, but couldn’t remember anything else.

A witness told police Wardle stopped at his residence around 11 p.m. Saturday claiming to be lost and in need of a ride home.

The witness said he drove the woman home, but she said nothing to him about her daughter or her vehicle.

Around 7:30 a.m. Sunday, police said a passerby found the child inside a vehicle in the 4500 block of Hendricks County Road 200 West.

The passerby notified police and stayed with the child until police arrived. The child was not injured and family took custody of the girl.

Hendricks County authorities say Wardle faces a charge of neglect of a dependent. Police are also holding the child’s mother on an outstanding warrant in an unrelated Boone County theft case.
