BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (April 30, 2015) – Indiana University Police are investigating a report of a female student attacked in a dorm bathroom.
IU Police received a call just after 8 p.m. Wednesday. The victim told police she was in a bathroom in Thompson Hall in Teter Quad when the guy came at her.
“He pushed her back in and held her up against a wall with his forearm had another hand over her mouth she was able to scream and at that point he left the building and ran away,” Chief Laury Flint, with IU’s Police Department.
The victim was not injured. The suspect was wearing a white ski mask.
This attack comes about a week after 22-year-old Hannah Wilson was beaten, murdered, and found in a Brown County field.
Investigators believe around 1 a.m. last Friday, Wilson's friends decided she was too drunk to go inside Kilroy’s on Walnut. Her friends got her a cab and that was the last anyone saw or heard from her. Investigators do believe Wilson made it inside her home just a few blocks from Kilroy’s.
Daniel Messel, 49, has been charged with her murder. Messel’s phone was found next to Hannah’s body.
Investigators still aren’t sure when or why Messel and Hannah crossed paths.
Campus police are reminding students to be extra careful and to not be out alone heading into the last weekend before graduation.
“I think everyone has realized travel in groups, don’t go anywhere alone, and be careful how much you are drinking at the bars, I know I am going to that especially,” says McKenzie Harris, a junior at IU.
Wilson's funeral is Saturday at 7 p.m. at Fishers High School.
The public is invited.
Wilson's family is asking people to wear bright colors instead of black because that’s what Hannah would have wanted.
