Colts fans flock to Chicago for tonight’s first round of NFL Draft; Will it come to Indy next?

CHICAGO, Ill. (April 30, 2015)—The first round of the NFL Draft is in Chicago Thursday night, and the Indianapolis Colts will have the 29th pick.

For more than 50 years, the NFL Draft has called New York home, but this year, the draft touched down in Chicago. Many Colts fans traveled to the Windy City so see it in person.

“It’s a big deal,” said Frank Corrado, who has attended the Draft for 37 years. “I’m impressed. I thought New York was the only place to have it, and so far I’m impressed.”

Colts fans CBS4Indy spoke with say they are happy the Draft is in Chicago.

“The new city that it’s in and everything they got set up, it looks like it’s going to be a great event,” said Heath Mendenhall.

Mendenhall and his father are life-long Colts fans, traveling to Chicago from South Bend.

“Basically all our lives, we have gone to lots of Colts games,” Mendenhall said.

Fans enjoyed several events in the city, including Draft Town, the ultimate football fan experience. What’s the best part about it? It’s completely free for all fans for the three days of the draft!

So far, the reviews of the draft and fan experience are great. Fans CBS4Indy spoke with hope the NFL Draft will soon come to Indianapolis.

“I think it would be awesome if it were in Indy,” said Mendenhall. “I think it would be just the way we did the Super Bowl a few years ago.”
