Baby rescued from rubble in Nepal over 22 hours after the earthquake

KATHMANDU, Nepal (April 29, 2015) There was one small happy ending amid massive death and destruction in Nepal.

A four-month-old baby boy was rescued from under rubble – more than 22 hours after the massive earthquake over the weekend.

Katmandu Today photographed the dramatic rescue.

The Nepalese newspaper reports the infant was rescued by the Nepalese Army and is in stable condition.

Initial exams did not show any internal injuries.

The newspaper reports the army initially failed to rescue the baby and left the site, thinking the baby had not survived.

Hours later, the baby’s cries were heard and soldiers returned to make the successful rescue.

Nepalese authorities have so far said 5,006 people died and more than 10,000 were injured as a result of the massive earthquake that struck Saturday. But officials have warned the death toll is expected to rise further.
