Mother gives birth to baby boy at work, stuffs him in desk drawer
(April 26, 2015) – A Michigan woman has been charged in the slaying of her newborn son whose body was found hidden in her desk drawer at work.
According to WDIV, Kimberly Pappas, 25, gave birth to a baby boy on March 31 in the restroom at a suburban Detroit freight management business. Pappas allegedly cut the umbilical cord and put the baby and placenta in her desk drawer.
Police and emergency crews responded to the business after her co-workers discovered significant amounts of blood in the restroom.
Papas “indicated she had a miscarriage and that the remains were inside her desk,” said police Detective Kevin Crittenden. “The baby was still warm when rescue personnel found him.”
The suspect and child were transported to a hospital, where the boy was pronounced dead. But contrary to Papas’ claims that it was a miscarriage, WDIV reports that a medical examiner said the full-term baby died from asphyxiation.
Pappas was arraigned Friday in District Court on charges of felony murder, first-degree premeditated murder and first-degree child abuse, according to a news release from the Redford Township Police Department. She was denied bond. Her next court appearance is scheduled for June 8.
