Dogs rescued from under overpass by fire crews
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (April 18, 2015) – Two dogs were rescued Saturday afternoon by Indianapolis Fire crews after they got stuck under an overpass.
Crews were flagged down by some people they were passing, and were told that 2 animals were stuck under and underpass.
The crew of IFD Engine 19 notified dispatch, who requested Animal Care and Control be sent to the area of Belmont and Kentucky.
ACC called for extra rescue crews, due to a steep incline and because one of the dogs had gotten into the water under the overpass.
Fire crews deployed a boat to rescue the animal and at that time the owner of the animal arrived.
The owner decided to access the underpass and enter the water to retrieve the dogs himself and went to the other side of the bridge to retrieve the dogs.
He was able to get both dogs to the shoreline but because each dog weighed about 70 pounds, he needed firefighters help to get up the hill.
