MADISON COUNTY, IL (April 11, 2015) – An Illinois man is facing federal charges after he attempted to lure a 13-year-old girl and her mother across state lines to have sexual relations with both of them.
27-year-old Shane Schlaefer was caught at a Denny’s parking lot Monday night. He thought he would be meeting the mother and daughter, but instead he met authorities.
According to KTVI, the investigation started in November when an undercover officer from Ohio posing as a woman named “Traci Black” was contacted by Schlaefer on the website motherless.com.
KTVI got hold of court documents that said Schlaefer’s first message to “Traci” was, “I want to know if you would like a man to breed both you and your daughter.” Schlaefer and the undercover officer continued to engage in sexual conversations through motherless.com and via text. In one text Schlaefer asked the undercover officer, “So is your little girl wanting to make a baby?”
Authorities used Schlaefer’s phone number to identify him. The conversations escalated, and Schlaefer arranged for the mother and daughter to drive to Illinois from Ohio to meet him. He said he’d pay “Traci” $500 and would get a hotel room to have sex with both of them.
Authorities set up the sting on April 6th at a Denny’s Restaurant. When Schlaefer got out of his car, U.S. Secret Service agents arrested him. He admitted everything.
U.S. Attorney Stephen Wigginton released this statement: “My office will spare no time or effort in defending the most innocent in our society – our children. Again, I warn parents – be knowledgeable and vigilant of computer usage when it comes to your children. Predators are out there, and they will stop at nothing to get to their prey.”
Schlaefer faces federal charges of attempted sex trafficking and attempted enticement of a minor. He’s being held without bond until his trial. If convicted, he could face a $250,000 fine and life in prison.
