(April 1, 2015)-  Allie McFee is a certified raw food chef and an expert in detox drinks and foods.

She claims a healthy dose of flavorful fresh veggies and fruit can boost your immune system and help out your liver.

“Detoxification is a process of eliminating toxins from your body. I think a nicer word for detoxing is cleansing. Having a drink like a juice in the morning or during your day, or eating salads with greens, those things are going to bring nutrients and vitamins to aid your liver,” says McFee.

It turns out a detox juice that includes beet juice is good for another purpose as well.

“This could also be a typical hangover drink for people that have a nightlife.”

McFee has a website called "The Humble Tummy" where she lays out her beliefs about health.

“You are drinking these fruits and vegetables.  It’s also a time to turn inward and reflect and nourish your body and slow down.”

Smoothies can be used for detoxing as well.  She uses dandelion leaves, gogi berries, chia seeds and honey for one detox smoothie.  But McFee says simple  lemon water in the morning or sliced fruit in a container of water are a good detox drink as well.

Detoxing is really a very simple concept. It’s cleaning out the junk food from your diet and giving your body a big dose of nutrient love.  Whether you detox once a month, once a year, or weekly, it’s pouring a healthy dose of nutrients into your body, to help it do its work.
