Homeowner shoots, kills brother in robbery attempt

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (March 21, 2015) — A homeowner shot and killed his own brother during an attempted burglary Saturday morning on the northwest side of Indianapolis.

IMPD was called out to a residence in the 2900 block of E. Riverside Dr. on a report of a person shot.

The homeowner told police that his rear window had been broken out of his residence and he encountered a burglar and shot him. When officers arrived at the location they found an unidentified, adult male unresponsive and unconscious. He was pronounced deceased by EMS personnel at the scene. The deceased was identified as Demond Anderson, 34, of Indianapolis.

Investigators later that the suspect was the homeowner’s brother. The suspect has prior felony convictions and was arrested for possession of a handgun and possession of stolen property.

Investigators are still reviewing the details of the incident, and at this time it is unknown as to whether the homeowner will be charged in the shooting.
