Spencer, Ind. (March 14, 2015) – A former Owen County Sheriff’s deputy has been arrested for misconduct and theft.  Joseph Hinton turned himself in to authorities on Saturday.

Deputies say Hinton was called to a man’s property after that man said someone was stealing ginseng from him. When Hinton arrived, he found a large amount of ginseng on the suspect and took it.  But instead of turning it in for investigation, deputies say Hinton kept it and sold it for more than $300.

Hinton is out on $7,500 bond.
