Suspect in hospital after Decatur County shootout

DECATUR COUNTY, Ind. (March 11, 2015) – A Southern Indiana man is in the hospital after a shootout with U.S. Marshals in Decatur County.

Police said U.S. Marshals and Indiana State Police officers were attempting to serve arrest warrants Wednesday evening when the suspect fled into a wooded area.

After hours of searching the wooded area for the suspect, the manhunt was dialed back. Police said it was during this transition period that the suspect appeared from the wooded area and shot at officers. Officers fired several shots and the suspect was hit multiple times

Police confirmed no officers were struck by gunfire.

The suspect was taken to IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. His condition is unknown at this time.

The suspect was wanted on weapons and burglary charges.
