NEW YORK (February 17, 2015) – A group of NYPD officers were greeted with the most adorable surprise last week while responding to a burglary call.

According to the New York Post, the owner of a Brooklyn apartment building called law enforcement because he heard strange noises coming from inside a unit that was supposed to be empty.

When officers stormed the apartment they found eight abandoned Maltese dogs wearing festive sweaters.

A law-enforcement source told the New York Post that “It looks like someone was trying to look out for them. They had sweaters on and someone left food for them.”

The well-dressed pups were taken to Animal Care and Control for evaluation. Unfortunately, they are not up for adoption. AC&C told myfoxny.com in an email that they’re in the process of trying to find their owners.
