Two in custody after police say suspects called in false shooting report to escape home invasion

ELIZABETHTOWN, Ind. (Feb. 12, 2015)– Police believe a suspect in a home invasion called in a false shooting report in an attempt to evade being arrested.

A homeowner arrived at his house in the 8600 block of West County Road 900 North and caught two people inside. He called police to report the incident, and the suspects fled. As police were coming to the scene, another report was called in that someone was shot and killed at a nearby bait and tackle shop.

Police diverted to the bait and tackle shop but found that nobody had been shot there. Police believe a suspect in the home invasion called in the shooting so that the he could escape.

A female suspect was taken into custody while the male suspect escaped. He was caught around 7:15 p.m. Thursday night.
