LONDON, Ky. (February 9, 2015) – An officer in Kentucky received a complaint about a shoplifter at a local Kroger.

When the officer arrived at the scene he quickly realized this wasn’t a case to follow protocol.

According to WKYT, Officer Justin Roby confronted the shoplifter who ended up being a single father with financial troubles.

The man had stolen some formula for his baby boy.

Instead of booking him, Roby paid for the formula with his own money.

“But behind the uniform, I’m a human being and I’m a person out in this community just like any of them. I have a little boy. I’m a father just like that gentleman was,” Roby told WKYT.

Officer Roby told the shoplifting father it’s ok to ask for help.

He says he wants everyone to know his fellow officers do similar, selfless acts every day — it’s just not always seen.
