Best Buddies Indiana kicks off Friendship Walk registration
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (February 7, 2015) — The non-profit group, Best Buddies Indiana, kicked off its Friendship Walk registration on Saturday.
The group puts together students who have mental disabilities with peers who do not to teach people that those with disabilities can be friends just like everyone else.
During the event students were able to take pictures and record videos to create awareness about the April Friends Walk.
Students also challenged friends to “dance or donate” similar to the ALS ice bucket challenge and a fundraising station was set up to give tips for raising money.
“We’re all about inclusions and providing the same opportunities as people with and without disabilities,” said Natalie Seibert, the State Director for Best Buddies Indiana. “So we want to make sure people in the community are aware of the abilities of a person with a disability to know they are capable of being a good friend like anyone else.”
Nearly 5,000 Hoosiers are involved with Best Buddies.
