2 people dead after crash on I-74 in Shelby County
SHELBY COUNTY (Feb. 2, 2015) – Two people died after an early morning crash on I-74 in Shelby County Monday.
According to Indiana State Police, the crash happened around 6:50 a.m. Troopers found a passenger car and an SUV in the median. Inside the passenger car were two people who were trapped and unresponsive. They were later pronounced dead.
Monday afternoon, police identified the deceased as Alesandro Cordova Cortez, 26, and Adrian Garcia Rodriguez, 36, both from Indianapolis. Cortez was the driver and Rodriguez was the passenger.
State police said the driver of the SUV, Donnie Pursley, was not hurt.
The investigation showed the car was on westbound I-74 near the 103 mile marker. Witnesses said the car pulled to the right side of the road with its flashers on and then spun. The SUV hit the driver’s side door.
Police said weather conditions may have played a role in the crash.
The left lane of I-74 westbound was closed for more than an hour while police investigated and crews worked to clear the crash site.
