Purdue University rec center evacuated after report of suspicious package

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (Jan. 20, 2015)– A man was detained and is being questioned after students reported a suspicious package at the  France A. Córdova Recreational Sports Center.

The suspicious package, likely a backpack, was reported around 3:10 p.m. Tuesday. The suspect left the package and then left the area. Students thought the activity was suspicious and alerted authorities immediately.

Purdue police arrived on the scene and detained the suspect. The Tippecanoe Co. bomb squad is investigating the package, which will be removed from the rec center and evaluated further off-site.

The sports center was evacuated as a precaution and will remain closed until 7 p.m.
