INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (January 10, 2015) — A new plan for a Southport park was revealed on Saturday.

One of two public meetings was held to gather community input.

The Park Board is presenting an updated five year plan, with the hope of giving the park a vintage feel, while adding more to the park.

The biggest initiative is constructing a trail from Madison Avenue to the park.

They also hope to move the basketball court from the parking lot to a free-standing location and buy handicapped accessible play equipment.

“I think the improvement of the park is very important because it’s the central place where people come to enjoy time with family and friends and neighbors,” Marylynne Winslow, the Park Board president says. “So the more we can improve our park and provide for our residents, the better the city’s going to be.”

Organizers say the public’s input will be used to further develop the master plan.

Another meeting is scheduled for February 11, at 6 p.m. at the Southport Park.
