GENEVA, Ind. (Jan. 6, 2015)—Emergency crews rescued a woman and her dog from icy water in Shelby County Tuesday afternoon.

Rescue workers responded to the area near 7901 East and 725 East around 2:20 p.m. after officials said a woman fell into water, while attempting to retrieve her dog that was chasing geese.

The woman was pulled from the icy water a short time later. Crews continued their efforts to rescue the dog and eventually were able to pull it out.

Officials say the Shelby County Swift Water Rescue Team recently received training on how to rescue dogs from frozen water.

The dog and woman are doing OK.

Officials from the Shelbyville Fire Department, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department and the Fairland VFD assisted in the rescue.
