Person shot, found dead inside parked car at north side apartment complex

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – One person is dead after a shooting at The Courts Apartments, in the 2000 block of W. Moray Ct. on then north side of Indianapolis Thursday.

Police were called to the scene shortly after 10:30 p.m. on a report of a person shot. They discovered the male victim inside a vehicle, dead from gunshot wounds. Around the scene, various vehicles had been shot at, with bullet holes through them.

Investigators are trying to determine what happened.

“We don’t know if it took place outside the vehicle, in the vehicle, as he was getting in the vehicle, or as to how that occurred,” Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Officer Aaron Hamer said. “That’s why we’re here now, trying to determine that.”

One neighbor told CBS 4 she heard what sounded with multiple loud pops or bangs outside her door, the next thing she knew, she said the police came knocking. The victim was found inside a car just a few feet away from her front door.

The woman said the victim appeared to be slumped over inside the vehicle. She says she watched as investigators combed through some of the other cars which were damaged by stray bullets. One of those vehicles belongs to I.C. Jones.

"I seen them investigating, and they asked me to open and unlock my car so they can look in the inside of my car for the bullet hole, I guess the bullet went through my truck," said Jones. Jones was able to drive his vehicle away from the scene after police cleared it, but a bullet hole to the front passenger door is a reminder of what happened.

Several people in the neighborhood called police after hearing gunshots, and investigators are talking to anyone who might have information about the shooting.

There is no specific suspect information at this time, as police received several different descriptions of possible suspects and suspect vehicles.
