UPDATE: Alcohol believed to be a factor in I-70 crash that killed Martinsville man
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – One person was killed in a three-car crash on I-70 eastbound Wednesday afternoon.
Emergency crews were called to the scene of a serious crash around 1:15 p.m. on I-70 near the Rural Street exit. When officers arrived, they located one person dead on the ground outside of the vehicle. There were no other injuries reported.
The victim was identified as Marc Cook, 30, of Martinsville.
Cook’s repair van was parked, with a yellow flashing light on top, just behind a disabled truck on the right shoulder when a Ford Expedition struck the rear of the van.
The collision caused the van to pin Cook between the front of the van and the rear of the pick-up. The Expedition was driven by Dangelo Dixson, 30, of Indianapolis.
Investigators say Dixson was driving on a suspended license. Troopers believe alcohol is a factor in this crash and Dixson was transported to Eskenazi Hospital for a blood draw to test for intoxication.
Dixson will be arrested once he’s out of the hospital. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will determine what charges he will face.
I-70 reopened to traffic before 5 p.m.
