IMPD investigating fatal crash on northeast side

Scene of crash

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Indianapolis police are investigating a fatal crash on the northeast side.

Officers were called to the scene near the intersection of E 38th Street and Dubarry Road around 5:17 p.m.

Indianapolis Metropolitan police found an unresponsive man trapped in a Chevy HHR. Two other vehicles were also involved in the crash.

The driver of the HHR was pronounced dead at the scene. According to witnesses, a Chevy Tahoe was going east on 38th Street in the left lane when the HHR pulled out northbound from Dubarry Road in the path of the Tahoe. The collision sent both vehicles into westbound traffic; a Jeep Wrangler going westbound swerved to avoid the HHR, but the vehicle jumped the curb and the HHR clipped the left rear portion of the Jeep.

The Marion County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased driver as 61-year-old Stanly Jones.

Two surviving drivers were taken to Eskenazi Hospital for a blood draw, which is standard procedure in crashes involving serious injuries or fatalities.
