INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.-- Police say one person died Tuesday in Indianapolis' first homicide of 2017.
Officers responded to the 1100 block of Jefferson Avenue around 3 p.m. on a report of a person shot.
The 38-year-old male victim was found outside of a residence and pronounced dead on the scene. He was later identified as Gillium Levy.
Detectives are speaking to potential witnesses and canvassing the area.
"Of course for 2017, we are hoping for less murders and less homicides so that the whole community can feel safe, no matter where they are living," said IMPD officer James Gillespie. "Whether they’re living on the east side that is more impoverished, or rather they are living in the Geist area--no matter where they are at, we want them to feel safe."
