NOBLESVILLE, Ind. – An off-duty officer with the Fishers Police Department suffered minor injuries in a crash on State Road 37 Monday evening.

Authorities responded to the crash at the intersection of Field Drive around 5:57 p.m.

Police believe the officer, James J. Alvis, 45, was traveling southbound in a 2008 Dodge Charger (a department-issued police) when he attempted to turn on 186th Street and pulled in front of a 1999 Volkswagen Passat, traveling northbound on SR 37.

Alvis said his view was obstructed by other vehicles in the intersection that were allegedly attempting to turn. He was transported by ambulance to Riverview Health with minor injuries.

The driver of the Volkswagen, Ritch L. Goodwin, 51, was transported by ambulance to I.U. Health Methodist. There are no details available at this time regarding his injuries.

As a result of the investigation, northbound traffic on SR 37 was either restricted and/or closed between SR 32 and 191st Street. Northbound lanes are projected to reopen at approximately 9 p.m.
