Indiana State knocks off No. 15 Butler in college basketball shocker
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Indiana State Sycamores handed No. 15 Butler its first loss of the season in a thriller Wednesday night.
With the game tied, Indiana State’s Brenton Scott hit a free throw with 1.5 seconds left to give Indiana State a 72-71 lead. Scott missed the second free throw, and Butler’s final desperation heave missed the mark at the buzzer.
Indiana State fans stormed the court to celebrate the victory, which pushed the Sycamores’ record to 5-4. Butler is now 8-1 on the season.
Butler trailed 40-32 with 17:02 to play and then powered ahead with a 16-2 run that gave the Bulldogs a 48-42 lead with 12:54 remaining. The Sycamores bounced back and took a 68-62 lead with 2:13 remaining.
Butler tied the game after senior Tyler Lewis sank a pair of free throws with 11.5 seconds left, setting up Scott’s game-winning score from the charity stripe.
Andrew Chrabascz scored 18 for Butler and Lewis finished with 15 points. Scott led the Sycamores with 25 points and teammate Matt Van Scyoc scored 23.
The Bulldogs play Cincinnati Saturday at Hinkle Fieldhouse. Indiana State hosts Western Kentucky Sunday.
