Suspect threatened to use screwdriver to blind man during argument, police say
COLUMBUS, Ind. – Police arrested a Columbus man Wednesday after he threatened to blind another man with a screwdriver.
According to the Columbus Police Department, officers were called around 3:40 p.m. to the 200 block of Smith Street in response to a fight. A man said he stopped by a friend’s house where he encountered Dirk Neal, 36.

The man told police he’s blind in one eye and Neal threatened to damage his other eye with a screwdriver so he’d be completely blind. The man said Neal swung the screwdriver at him and missed, and then knocked him to the ground.
The man said he swung a bike lock at Neal to keep him away. Officers found Neal and took him into custody.
He was booked into the Bartholomew County Jail on preliminary charges of battery and intimidation with a deadly weapon.
