Police rule out truck in connection with deadly hit-and-run, continue search for suspect
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Indiana State Police will continue their investigation into a hit-and-run crash Tuesday that killed a 53-year-old Rushville man.
State police said they were looking for a red Ford pickup truck in connection with the death of Jeffrey Smith, who was hit and killed along I-465 eastbound on the south side Tuesday morning. He’d pulled over to the shoulder of the road because of a mechanical problem and was standing on a ladder on the side of his truck.
A truck driver provided investigators with images of a Ford pickup truck traveling eastbound with what appeared to be front end damage. Detectives were able to track down the driver and the truck; they said the truck and driver were not involved in the crash that killed Smith.
State troopers said the investigation into Smith’s death remains open. Anyone with information about the crash should call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS (8477).
