MILLBURY, Ohio—Troopers with the Ohio State Highway Patrol seized 71 pounds of marijuana during a traffic stop on Interstate 80.
According to authorities, troopers stopped a 2016 Ford Expedition on the morning of Nov. 21 for following too closely on the highway. During a search of the vehicle, a K9 alerted troopers to 10 gift wrapped boxes. Authorities say the boxes contained approximately 71 pounds of marijuana, 360 THC pills and a pound of hash wax oil.
The drugs have a street value of approximately $330,000.
The driver, 31-year-old Daniel Yates of California, was arrested on charges of possession and trafficking in drugs, both second-degree felonies. If convicted, he could face up to 16 years in prison and up to a $30,000 fine.
Yates was booked in the Wood County Jail.
