Thanksgiving holiday drivers will enjoy near record low gas prices

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Getting to grandma’s house by car this Thanksgiving holiday weekend will be a bit cheaper than in years past.

Drivers will pay  the second-lowest Thanksgiving prices for gasoline since 2008 following recent declines in oil prices and the end of the autumn refinery maintenance season.

According to AAA, nearly 49 million people will be traveling 50 or more miles this year, which is up about a million travelers from last year.

For Hoosiers, the state ranks near the top for cheap gas, coming in 16th at $2.07 a gallon. But that’s about 20 cents more than the cheapest state of Oklahoma, which is currently selling gas for a$1.80 a gallon according to GasBuddy.com .

For those that traveling out west to states like Washington and California, drivers can expect to pay around $2.60 a gallon for regular unleaded.

Fuel economists expect prices to remain stable throughout much of December.
