Police arrest suspect who rammed police car before chase on northwest side

Suspect arrested after chase.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – A serious violent felon was arrested following a pursuit on Indianapolis’ northwest side Monday afternoon.

Officers were conducting an investigation into the whereabouts of Johnathan Baker, 29, around 12:30 p.m. They were able to locate him in a White Castle parking lot in the area of 38thStreet and Moller Road.

Officers initiated a traffic stop and blocked exits to the parking lot in an attempt to prevent a pursuit. The suspect then allegedly rammed a police vehicle and exited the parking lot. That’s when a pursuit began.

Police say the pursuit ended when the suspect bailed from the vehicle in the Oaks of Eagle Creek apartment complex. An officer was able to utilize a K-9 to apprehend Baker, who allegedly punched the K-9 and caused a possible minor injury. The K-9 will be taken for evaluation.

Baker was arrested and preliminarily charged with criminal recklessness, resisting law enforcement by fleeing in a vehicle, resisting law enforcement by fleeing on foot, battery of a police K-9, and the warrant for serious violent felon in possession of a firearm.

Baker was treated on-scene for minor injuries and was later transported to the Arrestee Processing Center for booking.
