INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – A 7-year-old boy battling cancer at Riley Hospital for Children got the surprise of a lifetime when his hero stopped by for a visit Sunday afternoon.

Steph Curry walked into Brody Stephens’ hospital room just as the Golden State Warriors super-fan was about to doze off. A bone marrow transplant recently made Brody very tired and weak, but the hospital says he was “better than he’s been in a very long time” when he saw Curry standing in front of him.

Before he got sick, Brody was a basketball star in New Palestine. It was during a game last year that he felt that something was up. He rushed to his dad on the sidelines.

“He said, ‘Dad, I’m too tired. I can’t play anymore,’” said Brody’s dad. “That’s when I knew.”

Soon after that moment, Brody was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, a disease that he was all too familiar with. He also fought cancer as a baby and won.

Now, Brody is trying to fight off a virus. He is in isolation and visitors have to wear a yellow gown and mask to enter his room. Curry did just that and the two sat and laughed. They went through Brody’s massive collection of sports cards and Curry signed all of the cards he appeared on.

Curry brought Brody plenty of gifts, a jersey, T-shirts and a basketball, but the best gift wasn’t from Curry to Brody. It was the other way around. Brody gave him his “BrodyStrong” bracelet and the Warrior said he’d wear it when he faced off against the Pacers Monday night at Bankers Life.
