Brown County State Park

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – In an effort to encourage Hoosiers to experience nature instead of slashed prices, Indiana State Parks is waiving admission fees to state parks, reservoirs and forest recreation areas on Black Friday.

The 100-percent deduction is part of a partnership with outdoor gear retailer REI, which will close its stores on Nov. 25 to inspire outdoor activity instead of waiting in long lines.

Those who take advantage of Friday’s free admission are also encouraged to take part in REI’s #OptOutside initiative. Participants just have to take a selfie at a recognizable location at the park they visit and post it on the division’s Facebook page with the hashtags #OptOutside or #OptOutsideIN.

Everyone who posts a photo will be entered in a drawing for a “hiking package” valued at $200 and for drawings for state park camping gift cards and state park annual entrance passes for 2017.

The REI hiking package is a set of trekking poles, a water bottle, a day pack and a pair of wool stocks, plus an Indiana State Parks annual entrance pass for 2017.
