Man arrested on murder and robbery charges after fatal south side shooting

UPDATE (January 31, 2018) — Patrick McAfee pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter. Charges of murder and robbery resulting in serious bodily injury were dropped as a result of his plea agreement. He was sentenced to 25 years in the Department of Correction with 5 years suspended.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Indianapolis Metropolitan police arrested a suspect in connection with the fatal shooting of a 38-year-old man over the weekend on the south side.

Detectives arrested Patrick McAfee, 20, in the murder of Juan Vega, 38.

Vega was shot around 11:30 p.m. Saturday near Punto Alto Circle and Punto Alto Drive. Police said the victim was hit by multiple bullets.

Neighbors said they didn’t hear any argument before the shots were fired. IMPD said the area doesn’t have a history of violent crime.

McAfee is preliminarily charged with murder, robbery and possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon.
