NDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Indiana Fever introduced Pokey Chatman as the sixth head coach in franchise history at Bankers Life Fieldhouse Friday morning.

Chatman spent the last six seasons as the head coach and general manager of the Chicago Sky.  She finished with a 106-98 record, leading the Sky to four straight playoff berths, including a trip to the 2014 WNBA Finals.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to lead an organization that is so well respected by so many on the outside, even the competition,” Chatman said.

“I am trilled beyond words that she’s going to become our next head coach,” said Fever president and general manager Kelly Krauskopf.  “I can’t imagine anybody better suited, better prepared, more experienced and hungry to take this group of players and lead this franchise.”

Chatman said she admired the Fever’s winning tradition and large fan base during her time in Chicago.  The Fever own a WNBA record with 12 straight playoff appearances.

“I have to be honest, I thoroughly enjoyed playing here, I just hated the three and a half hour bus ride back when it didn’t go my way,” Chatman joked.

Before moving to the WNBA, Chatman spent 20 years at LSU as a player, assistant coach and head coach.  She helped the Tigers to three consecutive Finals Fours and earned national coach of the year honors in 2005.

Chatman is taking over for Stephanie White who left at the end of last season to become the head coach at Vanderbilt.

“I’m excited,” said Chatman.  “I’m anxious to get started and I look forward to the future here and continuing the winning ways that’s Indiana Fever basketball.”
