Indy music producer pleads guilty to trafficking, prostituting minors

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.– An Indianapolis music producer pleaded guilty to trafficking and prostituting young girls out of a hotel.

Raheem “Kaz” Simmons and James Young were accused of running the human trafficking ring out of the America’s Best Value Inn on East 21st Street. Simmons pleaded guilty Wednesday.

According to court documents filed in the case, the money from the criminal enterprise was used for more motel rooms, clothes and musical production– mostly rap videos. Simmons is a music producer and Young is a local rapper.

“Young counseled Simmons on how to be a pimp, including how to talk to girls to entice them to engage in commercial sex acts and how to use Backpage.com in order to find customers for the girls,” the probable cause affidavit reads.

Simmons’ federal plea states he knowingly used a facility to promote and facilitate the promotion, management, establishment and carrying on of an unlawful activity and a crime of violence, specifically, the sex trafficking of one or more minors.

The plea also says Simmons knowingly recruited or enticed a minor between 14-18 years old to engage in a commercial sex act.

Simmons will be sentenced on March 29. Young has a court hearing on February 13.
