Dozens of marijuana plants found outside Indianapolis elementary school

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Dozens of marijuana plants were found outside a north side Indianapolis elementary school.

The 25 plants were growing near Greenbriar Elementary School, located at 8201 North Ditch Road, now police are trying to figure out how they got there.

“We have small children down this way and I’m sure that the parents will have something to say about it,” said a neighbor.

The discovery was made by the school security guard who was doing a sweep of the grounds after an alarm went off around 10:40 p.m. and found several plants growing in one small location.

Parents tell us they are shocked and concerned about the safety of their kids who attend Greenbriar.

We reached out to Washington Township Schools, who did not tell us whether or not any kids came into contact with the plants. Officials did release a statement confirming the discovery of the marijuana plants, saying officers told them that the plants did not appear to be cultivated.

“If the school was not aware, it is not their fault. I still feel that people should not do this stuff around children though,” said a parent.

At this point, officers have not said how long the pot plants were growing on school grounds or who might have planted them. Police did remove the plants from the property.
